New Approach Lands Will Rogers Win for Kathleen Moore & Purdys Rebel
08/01/2022

Kathleen Moore stepped into the herd in Will Rogers during the 4-Year-Old Non-Pro finals with an unusually relaxed demeanor – she was aboard a horse she wasn’t supposed to be riding.

It seemed to work.

The horse, Purdys Rebel, and rider from Madill, Oklahoma, went on to mark a 225, winning the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Summer Spectacular 4-Year-Old Non-Pro on Thursday, July 28, in Fort Worth. It paid $15,425 to Moore, who owns the mare.

“I’ve had her from late in her 3-year-old year and she’s a little quirky thing. She’s finally now starting to settle in be a cow horse,” Moore said.

In training with James Payne, Purdys Rebel (Metallic Rebel x Purdy Bet x Bet On Me 498) was on the Open roster before Payne decided it would be best for the mare’s mind if Moore rode her.

“He just felt that I needed to ride her a little bit to relieve some of the pressure. She’s so sensitive and I don’t ride as aggressive as he does. [I could] get her to chill a little bit [and say] ‘Hey, let’s just chill a little bit. All we want to do is stop the cow,’” Moore explained.

The rider and mare bred by Andrew Viola, of Fort Worth, Texas, have been figuring each other out since The Non Pro and The Open show in June.

“She’s sensitive and very observant, so it’s been hard to walk around in a circle without her getting a little tore up about something,” Moore said. “It’s not that she’s trying to be mean she’s just observant of everything.”

Pressure Off
After a disappointing Summer Spectacular showing on some of her other horses, Moore took the reins on Purdys Rebel with a “Whatever happens, happens,” mentality.

“Usually, I get a little tore up when I show and last night I wasn’t [nervous] for some reason. I didn’t have any expectations and decided to do what I can. The cows have been pretty treacherous before and I was deep in that set,” Moore said.

With a different mindset and mostly unfamiliar mount, Moore put together a run that topped the two sets of finalists. She thanked her help: James Payne, Lloyd Cox, Matt Miller, Clay Johnson and loper Jennifer.

2019 Summer Spectacular Was Truly Spectacular!
08/08/2019

Next to go was the Open Derby Finals and again, it was one to remember. There was an extra bustle in the air because of the $100,000 Champion’s check in the Metallic Cat Incentive on top of it already being the normal excitement of a major Open Derby finals in Fort Worth. There were eight Metallic Cat offspring in the finals eligible for the incentive, keeping us all on the edge of our seats.

Every horse and rider at this point could have won this event setting things up for an incredible finals if the cows would allow it. It turned out to be one of the best we have seen with so many going for the win along with the incentive. The fact that James Payne had a ride eligible for the incentive was a recipe for a run to remember. He is already one to go for it in the finals but this time was a little different. There was a lot on the table and he knew his mare was good enough to get it! She has been a favorite of James’ but little things have happened that have kept them from a big win in Fort Worth. He went into the finals just wanting to not mess up in the midst of living on the edge for the big score, something that is pretty hard to do. If there is one person that can pull it off though, it is James! At the end of the fast paced run James and Summer Time Fun (Metallic Cat x Hey Georgy Girl), owned by Ty Moore, posted a huge 226 to take the lead! It was not until the second set that they were matched by RL Chartier and Caution Piping Hot.

As said above the Metallic Cat Incentive was a huge part of the excitement for the evening. James and Summer Time Fun received the humbling $100,000 check again provided by Bobby Patton and Rocking P Ranch! Owner, Ty Moore, not only was the winner of the Non-Pro incentive money but also added this win to the night. A pretty unforgettable evening to say the least!

Stylish Hailee and James marked a 221.5 in the Open Finals to give them a 4th place finish.

This night was truly one that will never be forgotten! We are blessed to have some of the best in the industry in our corners and as a part of our team.

2019 Summer Spectacular was Spectacular!
08/05/2019

Third Place was in the Summer Spectacular Non Pro Derby was Ty Moore marking a 220 riding Scantly Clad (Metallic Cat x Scoot A Lil Closer). These two have had a standout year already with this evening adding to their impressive accomplishments. They not only received the $14,144 third place check but also the Champion’s check for the Metallic Cat incentive provided by owner of Metallic Cat, Bobby Patton. The impressive $20,000 check was only the start of what was to come for Ty yesterday evening as well!

Kathleen ended up with an 8th place finish aboard Khaleesi Kat, who was also a Limited Open Derby Finalist this year.

Derby Limited Open Win
04/11/2019

Derby Limited Open

The Derby Limited Finals finished out all of our Open Division finals for the show and it was the Cinderella Story of Cody Green and Khaleesi Kat (Bet Hesa Cat x KD Shorty), owned by Kathleen Moore, that came to a perfect end with them taking home the Championship!

Throughout the show Cody has been the crowd favorite! He and the quick little mare have put together solid runs throughout the rounds with a 219.5 in the Open Semi Finals to finish second in the round and make his first ever Open finals in the Will Rogers! It was undoubtable the loudest in the arena when he showed in the Open finals on Saturday night where he finished with a 214.5 after some testy cows challenged him. The whole thing brought chills to any sports lover though despite the score. Cody coming back to win the Derby Limited Finals was the story book ending we all wanted for this hard working young cowboy! Cody is the assistant trainer at the Payne Ranch which we all know is one of the hardest working programs out there. He has put in the time and to see it all come together is truly heartwarming.

They marked a 217.5 for the win and collected a $6,426 check to add to their amazing week. Cody literally tripled his lifetime earnings in one week of showing, again what a fantastic close to their story at the Super Stakes!

Khaleesi Kat Takes the Win
04/08/2019

True to her name, Khaleesi Kat took command of the Kit Kat Sugar National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Super Stakes Limited Open finals on Sunday evening. She and pilot Cody Green walked out of the “Big Pen” as champions.

Green could hardly wait to put his fancy new buckle on after he collected his prizes from his winning run aboard Khaleesi Kat (Bet Hesa Cat x KD Shorty x Kit Dual), a 4-year-old mare Kathleen Moore purchased from breeder Ten/27 Ranch LLC for $80,000 out of the 2017 NCHA Futurity 2-Year-Old Sale. The duo’s 217.5 edged out the stiff competition by merely a half-point.

“It was unreal. That Hereford cow we finished on was just amazing,” Green said, admitting the show had him “loped down” enough to master his adrenaline for this win. “My horse is such a gamer. We’ve shown her for about four or five days straight now, and she’s just a gamer. She’s tough, and I love her!”

Green started showing Khaleesi Kat, a full- or half-sister to earners of $711,000-plus, before the 2018 NCHA Futurity, where they qualified for the Limited Open finals. At the same show, Moore piloted her mare to eighth in the Non-Pro. Thanks to this $6,651 paycheck and an additional $18,762 from finishing 14th in the Open on April 6, the horse’s Equi-Stat record passed the $55,000 mark.

“I think I quadrupled my earnings in the last two nights. It’s unbelievable,” Green said as he stood in the arena dirt trying to wrap his mind around the success he had in Fort Worth. “James Payne did all the hard work. I can’t take any credit for this; this isn’t possible without him. I’m just so, so blessed.”

Ty Moore and Scantly Clad Top the field
02/16/2019

In the Derby Non-Pro Ty Moore and Scantly Clad (Metallic Cat x Scoot A Lil Closer) were victorious marking a 220 for the Championship! He and his mare were also in it to win it starting out their run in an aggressive way. Ty showed the judges he wanted to win and the mare handled the pressure with ease. She is a pretty mover and always bright on a cow. Like so many others coming out of the Moore’s program, she was born and raised on their place. There have been countless success stories coming out of this renowned program and the Moore’s are mounted to win year after year. This win added $13,734.49 to the young mare’s earnings for the year but it certainly will not be her last time in the spotlight!

Sweet Sister Cat & Ty Moore
10/20/2017

Sweet Sister Cat has shown the kind of consistency all cutters look for in the arena. She is the 2017 West Texas Futurity Non-Pro Champion, the Cotton Stakes Futurity Non-Pro Champion, the Brazos Bash Futurity Non-Pro Co-Champion and the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association Futurity Non-Pro Champion. These four Non-Pro wins have brought her Equi-Stat earnings to around $30,000 for her non-pro rider, owner and breeder – Ty Moore, of Madill, Oklahoma.

The pedigree of Sweet Sister Cat (Metallic Cat x Heavens Little Angel x Smart Little Lena) also shows us consistency in how the pedigree comes together. It brings together a balanced pedigree through the success of Doc Bar and Leo San as a nick in Western performance horses.

Heavens Little Angel ($46,217) was a multiple aged-event finalist for Ty Moore. She was the 2011 Abilene Spectacular 5/6-Year-Old Limited Non-Pro Reserve Champion and a Non-Pro finalist at this same event. She is the dam of two Equi-Stat record-holders, with total offspring earnings of $66,094. Her leading money-winner is Midnite Cat ($35,792).

Heavens Little Angel is sired by Smart Little Lena. This third cross to Smart Little Lena gives Sweet Sister Cat a breeding pattern of 4 X 4 X 2 to this great stallion. This accounts for a big chunk of the Doc Bar/Leo San cross in this pedigree.

Heavens Little Angel is out of Heavens Olena (CD Olena x Peppys From Heaven x Peppy San Badger). Heavens Olena ($35,466) is the dam of two Equi-Stat money-earners, with Heavens Little Angel as her leading money-winner.

CD Olena was the 1995 NCHA Horse of the Year, winning the 1995 NCHA Derby Open, and he was also the winner of the 1994 NCHA Futurity Open. CD Olena is an Equi-Stat top 10 sire of money-earners, with his foals earning more than $16 million. His leading winners include Sister CD ($852,612) and Tap O Lena ($502,145).

CD Olena is the broodmare sire of foals that have won in excess of $9.6 million. His leading money-winners in that division include Quintan Blue ($609,140) and High Brow CD ($543,161).

CD Olena is another Doc Bar/Leo San cross. His sire is Doc O’Lena (Doc Bar x Poco Lena x Poco Bueno) and his dam is CD Chica San Badger (Peppy San Badger x Zorra Chica x Otoe).

The dam of Heavens Olena was Peppys From Heaven ($142,956), the 1991 NCHA Summer Spectacular Derby Non-Pro Champion. She is the dam of horses that have earned $339,670. Her money-winners include Seven From Heaven ($72,667) and Heavens Hickory ($56,522).

Peppys From Heaven is a full sister to Peptoboonsmal. This gives the pedigree of Sweet Sister Cat a collateral linebreeding to this full brother and sister. Collateral relatives are full brothers and sisters or three-quarter brothers and sisters that appear in the same pedigree at least once on the sire side and once on the dam side.

Peppy San Badger was the 1977 NCHA Futurity Open Champion, and he is an AQHA Hall of Fame member. He is a sire of horses that have lifetime earnings of $24.5 million. His money-winners include Little Badger Dulce ($668,461) and Haidas Little Pep ($425,174).

Royal Blue Boon ($381,764) was the 1984 NCHA Super Stakes Co-Reserve Champion. She is now the No. 1 dam of cutting horse money-winners. Her foals have earned more than $2.6 million. Her leading money-winners include Red White And Boon ($922,063) and Bet Yer Blue Boons ($350,615).

Déjà Vu at Brazos Bash
10/01/2017

Ty Moore has been on a hot streak with his homebred mare Sweet Sister Cat (Metallic Cat x Heavens Little Angel x Smart Little Lena). Last month, the pair took home the West Texas Futurity Non-Pro Championship, and shortly after, they went on to clinch the same title at the Cotton Stakes.

They kept their momentum going at the Brazos Bash, where a 217 in the first go-round of the Futurity Non-Pro and a 215 in the second earned them a cumulative 432 to share Co-Champion honors with Nadine Payne and Bill Masterson-bred Peaceful Ez Feelin (216/216) (Lizzys Gotta Player x Snorty Girl x Snorty Lena).

Both duos collected $5,400 for their success in Weatherford, Texas. That paycheck boosted Sweet Sister Cat to an Equi-Stat record of $18,850.

Futurity Success Continued
09/15/2017

Oklahoman Ty Moore rode Sweet Sister Cat to the second straight Futurity Non-Pro Championship of the mare’s career with a victory at the Cotton Stakes.

Moore and the homebred mare (Metallic Cat x Heavens Little Angel x Smart Little Lena) won the Cotton Stakes Futurity Non-Pro with a composite score of 431.5 (216.5/215).

Their win on Friday, Sept. 8, in West Monroe, Louisiana, came on the heels of their West Texas Futurity Non-Pro Championship last month in Amarillo, Texas.

The duo’s $3,000 check from the Cotton Stakes boosted Sweet Sister Cat’s earnings to $13,450.

Moore also tied for the Futurity Non-Pro Reserve title riding Heck Ofa Hit for his aunt, Kathleen More. That team was tied by Nadine Payne aboard Peaceful Ez Feelin. The 426 composite scores paid $2,086 to both riders.

2015 Reflection
12/30/2015

Wow! What a year 2015 has been. It has gone by so fast that it is easy to forget accomplishments, blessings, and everyone who has helped make it a great year. So where do we start?

Well 2014 ended with Cherry Peppers making the NCHA Open Finals and Tallica being a Non Pro Semi Finalist. Then we kicked off 2015 at the Abilene Spectacular. There, Tallica, shown by Lloyd Cox, made the Open Finals; Purrrfect, Let Georgie Do It, Flirten Cat, and No Way In Hal were all Non Pro Finalists. As the year went on, we were lucky enough to have horses continually making finals. No Way In Hal and Shez Sinsational both had a great year to finish their aged event careers. No Way In Hal went on to be a finalist at the Bonanza, the Arbuckle Mountain Futurity, the NCHA Super Stakes, and the Brazos Bash where she was the Classic Non Pro Champion with Kathleen Moore aboard. Shez Sinsational was a finalist at the Arbuckle Mountain Futurity, was 4th at the NCHA Super Stakes in the Non Pro, the Breeders Invitational, and the Cotton Stakes in both the Open and Non Pro. Let Georgie Do It also has had an exceptional year with a list of accomplishments including: 2015 Abilene Spectacular Non Pro Classic Top 10, 2015 Bonanza Non Pro Classic Reserve Champion, and 2015 Finalist NCHA Super Stakes Non Pro Classic. He was then sold and went on to be the Classic Amateur Champion at the El Rancho Futurity. Last but not least is Flirten Cat. He had a long list of finals in 2015 in the Non Pro including: Abilene Spectacular Non Pro Classic Top 10, Bonanza Non Pro Classic Top 10, Arbuckle Mtn Futurity Non Pro Classic Reserve Champion, "The Non Pro" Amateur Classic Top 5, "The Non Pro" Non Pro Classic Top 10, and the West Texas Futurity.

Our four year olds also had an exceptional year. DMAC Spicy Spoon was an Open finalist with James Payne aboard at several shows including: The Arbuckle Mountain Futurity, the NCHA Super Stakes, the Breeders Invitational, the NCHA Summer Spectacular, the West Texas Futurity and the Cotton Stakes. Cherry Peppers made the finals at the “Non Pro”, the West Texas Futurity and the Cotton Stakes. Tallica made the Abilene Spectacular Open Derby Top 5, was an Ike Futurity Open Derby finalist and the 2015 Breeders Invitational Non Pro Derby Reserve Champion with Ty Moore. Dont Touch My Stuff and Purrrfect were also finalists at multiple events.

The 2015 NCHA Futurity has come and gone. Set Fire To The Reyn/ Lloyd Cox, Shesmisscongeniality/ Glynn Whitman and Wisper Sweetnothings/ Ty Moore were all Open Semi-Finalists. Shesmisscongeniality and Glynn were also Limited Open Finalists. In the Non-Pro we had Wisper Sweetnothings/ Ty Moore in the Semi-Finals and Shesmisscongeniality/ Ty Moore in the Finals. Mayham (out of Dualin Safari) was an Open Semi-Finalist and a Limited Open Finalist. Make Ur Move (out of Lida Rey) was a Non Pro Finalist. We are excited to see them in the coming year!

We would like to take time to thank all of our horse buyers. This year has been a whirl wind with sales. Some of our horses sold have included: Let Georgie Do It, Flirten Cat, Precious Metallic, Purrrfect, Riskee Gamble, Make UR Move, Mayham, Cause An Uproar, Your Hour Is Up, Lookin Good Darlin, One Time Safari, It Matters, Serious Altercation, Paws It Now, Quick And Smooth Rey, More Than Promised, Rock The Indian, Way To Special, Givetheboysakiss, Cats Astrey and Tons More Fun. Without all of you, our business of raising horses would not be possible.

Finally, we would like to thank everyone who makes this all possible. Our trainers, employees, show help and buyers. Without you, we wouldn’t have had such a successful year!

We are about to hit the ground running this coming year. We expect to have 55 colts born in 2016, so we will be keeping very busy at the ranch with foaling and breeding.

Here’s Lookin Toward 2016!

KATHLEEN MOORE AND NO WAY IN HAL RIDE TO VICTORY AT THE BASH.

KATHLEEN MOORE AND NO WAY IN HAL RIDE TO VICTORY AT THE BASH.

Author: Lauren Middleton / Cutting Horse Central

KATHLEEN MOORE AND NO WAY IN HAL RIDE TO VICTORY AT THE BASH.
It was a moment of shock and awe for Kathleen Moore after her 221 run last night in the Classic Non Pro finals which held up for the victory and the $16,000 Champions check. No Way In Hal (sired by Halreycious) had taken her for a ride and the pair claimed their first Non Pro Aged Event Championship. Kathleen and her help which included both of her trainers, James Payne and Lloyd Cox, had one strategy before they walked to the herd and that was to calm down! As the run built however, calming down was a bit more difficult than anticipated. The cows that the team picked for her and “Widow” as she is known around the barn, were very fast but exactly what was needed to show of her slinky mare’s talents. When they finished their run Kathleen explained that she was shaking and just couldn’t believe that they were able to put that kind of run together. The whole team of Cox Cutting Horses helped her realize that they actually did though; as they celebrated her win after the tough finals was said and done.

No Way In Hal was purchased as a three year old and until she was five Lloyd was the only one to show the talented mare. She has been getting better and better, and will finish her career this fall. Kathleen plans on keeping "Widow" and adding her to the exceptional broodmare band her family has built over the years. As we all know it takes a great support group to achieve great success. Kathleen would like to thank all of her help in and out of the show pen. We look forward to seeing many more championships from her and the babies out of her great mare No Way In Hal.
